Transpersonal Therapy/Spiritual Psychology

Transpersonal Therapy/Spiritual Psychology

I started to study transpersonal psychology a bit later in my career and I found it of much value for my clients due to its more holistic view on healing, in which includes spirit. Transpersonal psychology was developed in the 1960s by psychologists such as Abraham Maslow, Robert Assagioli, Victor Frankl, William James, and Carl Jung. These psychologists were interested in spiritual aspects of human nature, looking at the whole human experience. The lens of this approach is all about the full spectrum of one´s psychospiritual development – and looks at our wounds as related to a crisis of the human being trying to evolve and heal. When I look through the transpersonal lens as a therapist, I see beyond the individual and have a deep knowingness of a person, including their psyche, spirit, mind, energy, cosmos, etc., key terms with this approach are spiritual crisis, transcendental experiences, spiritual development, and more. Transpersonal psychology is paired well with astrology psychology because they both share similar beliefs in that we are humans inhabit this body with a spirit that resides within us to be on earth to learn, grow, evolve, heal, and experience. Some may relate to the laws of karma in expecting our karma and living out our dharma (both karma and dharma are considered eastern spirituality but still encompass spiritual psychology).
